On EFI machines (my bikes), I've always filled the tank and added Stabil. On carbed machines (lawn mower, snow blower, etc), I've always drained the tank and then ran them until they died, to get the fuel out of the lines. I have never vented a tank, though. Bikes have vents built in and the fuel cap will let pressure vent automatically. At least all of mine have done that.

Yep. I store the lawnmower, weedeater, leaf blower, pressure washer. I'm mowing every 4 days. So I'm ready for storage weather.
