HOA vs 90y.o. medal of honor vet over flag

I feel bad for the guy...I am a veteren...I love America and I love what the flag represents BUT it is not his property...right ? He can put a flag on a pole attached to his house but not a 21 foot pole on community property.

I personally would not have a problem with him doing this if I lived there BUT there was an HOA with rules when he moved in there so they are well within their rights imho.

I wish they would make an exception to be honest BUT they are not obligated to.
