Texas is net positive in simple terms of IRS revenue vs. federal funding, but AMJ is right in that those numbers don't include disaster relief, FBI and military support, etc. No idea where it stands on federal land acreage. That said, even though technically Texas and some other states like California could probably stand on their own, they would be nowhere near as successful as they are now. And how long before they become just another country waiting for a foreign aid check from the US?

States like Louisiana would be straight boned, right out of the gate. Louisiana is in the hole to the federal government by about $10 billion a year.

It's easy to click on an internet petition. Actually going it alone, different matter. Wonder how many of these arm-chair secessionists would still be lining up for independence if the president actually came back and said "Go for it." Wonder how many are currently drawing social security...
