Here's my experience with Subarus: powertrain is bulletproof as hell and will withstand a ton of abuse (the last one in the family got well over 150k), BUT, if there's even the slightest ding in the paint and you drive anywhere near salted roads, get it taken care of the second it happens (ie YESTERDAY) or the whole damn car will rot out from that point. I'm not talking touch-ups to the paint, I'm talking bringing the sucker to a shop and having it professionally fixed (even the slightest dent). We have 50k on the clock of our current Subaru (a Legacy sedan) and it runs like the day it was new.
