The guy is a tool and overreacted. But looking at the hipster looking douchebags there (who don't appear to have jobs that day) I wouldn't be suprised if they targeted his "Gas guzzling global warming machine". I'd be pissed too (if that's what happend).
With 25 years on the police force he should have known that a good ol'fashion baton beat down is all that was needed there.
