just curious

its the off season, (for most of you haha) heres a question-

Whats the fastest you've been with a passenger? It could also be rephrased as how close to the limit of your ability do you ride when you got some1 on the back?

im sure some chicks (or dudes, i guess :idk: i dont judge lol) like speed "go faster, go faster!" and some like to be whipped thru the canyons....do you give em what they want?

was92v 02-03-2009 09:36 PM

I usually don't haul ass when I'm hauling ass. Many (most?) passengers do not know how to ride and it is too easy to have someone upset the bike at just the wrong moment to risk pushing too far. Light, quick sport bikes do not appreciate inappropriate movement. Having said that my SO (Little Taz) is awesome on the back seat. I will admit to occasionally pushing to maybe 7/10's with her back there because she is so good I can hardly tell she is on there. But it is really hard on her physically, especially when braking. I wish she had a pair of bars to hang on to. So far, in my 40 years of riding she is the one exception to my rule. She knows how to dance in the canyons.
I suppose if I had a heavier, less twitchy bike it would be easier to roll 2Up, but a 600 Sport is not it.

Gas Man 02-03-2009 09:46 PM

I've had the wife up to 150 or so....

Corey 02-03-2009 09:49 PM

150 on my old YZF-600R. It was topped out and wouldn't go faster, but with just me, it'd only go about 10 mph faster anyway. All indicated speed, I'm sure it wasn't actual.

CrazyKell 02-03-2009 09:51 PM

I've never ridden with a passenger. :idk:

Smittie61984 02-03-2009 10:06 PM

Ridden with a passenger a few times.

Closest was with a girl while I was buzzed with about a month of riding in. Dumb I know but I did it. Anyways, she just caught my buddy tagging another girl and came to me pissed off. She use ot have a BF who rode and rode on the back so she knew how to be a proper bitch. I ended up hauling some ass on the bike which was easy now to me but probably to my limit then. She has her own bike now. A street fighter at that. And neither of us have a death wish (Or as big of one) anymore.

I've ridden in a 350z to 160mph as a passenger.

One buddy of mine who was outright squid and crazier to hell (Infact here is a video of him)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_vMhyaZwU0
I remember looking at his myspace page and seeing a girl write "It was fun riding the motorcycle. But next time we need to go faster". I saw him ride with a girl before (Infact the one I gave a ride to) and he rode like that with her on it (She was into stunting and stuff). So whoever that chick was had to be crazier than fuck.

OneSickPsycho 02-03-2009 10:38 PM

About 110 or so...

Dnyce 02-03-2009 11:14 PM

i think the average pass. doesnt know the dif between 100 and 130+

one chick told me we had to go fast cuz she had been 180 in a honda...cvic-i was like did u even look at the fuckin speedo?
"no, he told me thats how fast we were going"

i just walked away lol

i recently hovered around 100-105 with a new chick to see the reaction-she thought we're doing like 150, she was almost sad when i told her the truth

speeding is just a weight disadvantage, but dipping in the corners hard just throws it all off with a unknowledgable passenger, makes it way unsafer like earlier mentioned. personally im usually just a cruiser with a passenger- stuff that doesnt excite a normal rider excites a new passenger plenty

Ducati Diva 02-03-2009 11:24 PM

I've never had a passenger but been one a lot. I've been in the 150's with Jeep in control. We can maintain a good steady pace through the twistys(don't really know mph). I would never attempt this with any other rider and we are always fully geared.

me neither, + i'm super ticklelish so i doubt i ever will.

From what i know i've been a passenger at about 140

rogue 02-04-2009 12:07 AM

I've been about 120 or so as a passenger.

Dave 02-04-2009 12:15 AM

hrm my ex was probably the best pass ever, on the first md run (while keeping up with a pack of one up 600s) we ended up crossing a hill about a foot in the air, wheel powered up a few times as well and she never flinched. top speed though i think is about 120ish. and for cage ive done 160+ with a pass in the nsx

Quick281 02-04-2009 12:21 AM

Ive been 160 (limiter) in a 03 KB'ed Cobra and that was surprisingly comfortable.

Bike was reading 142 so I assume it to be well below that but it did feel like I was about to be sucked right off the damn thing.

No passenger though, and I don't think I would ever go that fast with one on either.

Adeptus_Minor 02-04-2009 12:54 AM

I'm not really comfortable with passengers so I usually take it pretty easy.

thirdgenlxi 02-04-2009 01:00 AM

I've only taken passengers a couple times before.... fastest I went with someone on the back.... 45 mph. All were just local around town rides. My cousin and my sister wanted to go for a ride since they'd never been on a bike before, but they were kinda scared and didn't want to go fast at all or go on main roads. So I just took it easy on some backroads, they enjoyed it

I figured you'd take them up to 150 or so. Well a 150mile round trip.

I do remember giving a friend a ride on one who thought he needed a 1000cc or he'd become bored. I ran my 600 F3 up from 20-100mph. But it was on a small tiny road with a slight bend. He's looking at Ninja250s now.

Cutty72 02-04-2009 01:38 AM

Had Vader up to 120ish with comonboys on the back.
She was freaked, and I was grumpy cause she was supposed to be giving me directions and failed. So I was backtracking and trying to make up time.
It was when she dropped her SV and we were going to get a trailer, so prob not the best time for me to be pushing it.

even in full tuck? once i put the helmet on the tank, its damn near like i stopped moving, solo or two up...

Mr Lefty 02-04-2009 04:07 AM

about 110 or so... just to scare the shit out of my sister

Yeah I was in a tuck but since it was one of my first times going that fast on a bike I assume it was just getting used to it. I haven't opted to do that again. :D

One time I went over 100 with my visor up and when it slammed shut I was pretty sure I had just died it was suddenly so quiet.

My thoughts were like

"Oh great, good job Alex you just killed yourself."

"Oh shit, I was wrong, there must be an afterlife if I can hear myself. Damn."

Then as I was slowing down and put a leg down at a stop light.

"Wow, that was deep."

My buddy just sort of looked over and asked me if I was ok since I looked very confused at the time.

2up 02-04-2009 04:55 AM

As a passenger I have gone as fast as somewhere in the 160's. This was on the back of a GSXR 1k which is one of the most uncomfortable bikes to ride on as a passenger, IMO.

I love speed and I love twisties. I don't think I'd ever have the figurative balls to do as I rider what I have done as a passenger. Which is the opposite of how most people feel, I know. And also part of the reason I'm a perpetual passenger. :idk:

Aside from being the perpetual passenger, I'm about the same way. I love riding with someone I trust who knows how to ride. I've been riding for as long as I can remember as passenger. I'm trying to improve my skills as a rider but it's slow going as I can often be too careful, think too much, and just overall fuck myself in the process.

Ninjakel 02-04-2009 07:19 AM

I've had a couple passengers, nothing usually over 100.

As a passenger, probably close to 150-160 with Leon on his Gsxr 1k.

about 130-140 on my ex's ZX9 and his Gsxr 1k

was92v 02-04-2009 07:22 AM

Top speed? I was thinking curves in my previous post.
2-Up speed is probably 120ish with Little Taz on the back, by myself 160+ on an RF900.
Without a faring to hide behind, 150 +/- 5. That was on a vintage race bike that didn't have a speedo, so it is a calculated guess based on RPM/Gearing/tire dia etc. It was a 1000cc Triple Super-Bike at Road Atlanta before the changes to the back straight. Popping over the hill and down into the cavity was a real attention getter...:rockout:

Particle Man 02-04-2009 07:25 AM

The highway speed limit so around here, about 65.

The only person I've ever had on the back of my bike is my wife... when she's on the back, I ride very very conservatively.

Ninjakel 02-04-2009 07:28 AM

when we were alot younger, Leon used to do high speed wheelies with me on the back. and I liked it. :panic:

Now, well, I still like it, but he won't do it. Lately he has been very "grandpa" like when i get on the back, which isn't very often actually.

That kinda sucks. I used to love riding wheelies with Wade. I kinda miss it. I'm too chicken shit to do them on my bike intentionally, so about the only way I get to ride wheelies is on the back. All I asked was for him to tap me on the leg to let me know he was going to "do something stupid"

I've never carried a passenger (in fact, removing the passenger pegs was one of the first things I did with both bikes I've owned). But back in my pillion days, the fastes I'm aware of was somewhere in the mid 130's. :panic: All I can say is NOT FUN... it was a fairly short burst (a few miles) but it was in a pack of 17 bikes, and it resulted in the whole pack getting pulled over (gee, big surprise), because we apparently passed an off-duty cop who called into the sherriff's department in the next county to warn them of our impending arrival.

you should look into the wheelie academy, they have speed triples with bars to keep them from flipping :dthumb:

Um, lemme think, probably about.... I'd say.... none. Unless you count fiddy's and mini-bikes. ;)

My dad had a motorcycle for as long as I can remember, and I dated/was friends with riders a lot. When I was 17 my then boyfriend and I hit a tiny patch of gravel and the bike wobbled on us a bit, which shook me up a little. But then the following weekend he was riding by himself, went down, and died. (Broken ribs punctured his heart and lungs.) I was probably 26 before I would get on a bike again and I was scared SHITLESS for quite some time.

Since then I've wanted to learn to ride but there hasn't been a bike available for me to do so. Hopefully some day there will be chance though becuase I'd like to give it a try and see how I feel about it. I also want to drag knee 2-up. I've come pretty close and it was awesome!

Sixxxxer 02-04-2009 10:35 AM

140 with my Fiancee on the Back.

Yamerhaw 02-04-2009 12:57 PM

probably a little over 160,

and probably about 75% in the twisties, the passenger was a rider herself, and does well as a passenger too, we were embarassing some solo riders

ahh... just wondered cause you say you prefer riding passenger fast to riding fast... I'd be surprised if you still said the same after getting a decent amount of riding time under your belt.

you should talk to Drewpy or Psycho Child... she's got a little 250 Rebel for sale.

It's not the flipping I'm skeered of. It's dropping the bike, or doing anything else that will hurt it.

MILK 02-04-2009 08:23 PM

Ain't never had me one of them thar passangers. Nope. If I ever do though I can promise you I would never exceed the speed limit.

smileyman 02-05-2009 10:20 AM

Strange how you all answered with top speed numbers when I mostyly scare the hell out of my pillions with lean angle and corner speed. No I haven't ever dragged knee with a pillion (just cause it is hard to hang off with your wife shrink wrapped to your back) but I do let her feel the lean, step kids too.

She rode in a straight line up to my 600's limit 145-150. Had no adrenaline at all. So she asked for a road race ride and I obliged.:idk:

No bike in the cards for me anytime in the near future. The whole no job thing makes spending on "fun" stuff not possible. :(

I've dipped it low in a corner...when we got to our destination the Lady was like..."I felt like I could reach out and touch the ground in the turns we were so close"

I told her real riders drag there hands during a corner She laffed at me...Lol

I just feel more comfortable doing an aggressive run through some twisties alone not with a passenger.

I did have this one girl stand me up in a corner. She was a serious front end loader so I cut her some slack. She never rode on back again though...I sure missed the feeling of those things bouncing against my back!

Aw, that's really sweet of you. Maybe by the time you're ready for that I'll have a new job that pays incredibly well and can go to Jersey to visit my daughter and buy your bike and trailer it back here....
