First ride of 2009 ....

4 of us, one got a ticket for passing on a double yellow(long straight though) and for expired license(one week), one of the others tore his clutch out and had to walk beside it up hill for about a mile(it was running but wouldnt pull him on it), another guy dropped his in wet grass when putting it back in his building, so i'd say overall, not a good first day

fasternyou929 01-05-2009 12:59 PM

Pretty good chance the rest of your rides in '09 will be better!

NC has some of the LONGEST double-yellow areas I've seen on perfectly straight areas with good visibility. A good 50% of the time I think I should be coming up on a passing zone... nope.

And PA has some passing zones in areas that should NOT be passing zones.

Sucks about the shitty ride, Yammer.

Like fasternyou said, hopefully all others this year will be less eventful.

Smittie61984 01-05-2009 08:46 PM

It's been raining non-stop on and off since January (Infact since Christmas). Which I don't care about riding in the rain but I usually end up riding at night and I can't stand night time and rain riding. On top of that the temp has been in the mid 60s so it's been nice.

But later on this week we should have 50s and sunny so Fuck Yeah!!!

tached1000rr 01-06-2009 12:25 AM

Yamerhaw, where were you all riding?

why are you a highway patrolman from here?

we were riding on highway 88 and 18 mountain, Ashe County(where i live)

Particle Man 01-06-2009 02:28 PM

so far, the only rides I've done have been on the snowmobile.

Definitely a marked contrast to the beginning of 2008, that's for sure.

Sixxxxer 01-06-2009 07:14 PM

My Balls would fall off If I tried to ride in this weather...I probably wont be riding till March Ish.

Cars/bikes that get stuck behind a slow truck? :idk: That's not uncommon on trucking routes.

I passed about 6 cars at once w/ a friend of mine while out riding up a long hill in NH.

Granted, some asshole cut out w/o looking to do the same thing we were doing & almost took my out my buddy.... but, ya know, other than that it wasn't an issue.

If I'm going up a hill and cant see whats on the other side...I'm not passing anyone.

Maybe your definition of a Hill and Mine are different...I dont have long uphill mountain roads here in jersey, its more like little humps in the road.

I think in most states it's illegal to pass more than one vehicle at a time. If so and your buddy was hit, he may have been ticketed on top of it. :panic:

z06boy 01-08-2009 03:06 PM

Sounds like ya'lls day did suck. 3 of us went out New Year's Day in NC and then 4 of us went out this past weekend...so far...so good. :dthumb:

Well except for the fact that the threads started showing on my rear tire so now I need to buy rubber. :panic:

Replacing them before the vertical threads start showing is the coward's way out.

deals gap dragon slayer 01-08-2009 04:45 PM

The group i usually ride with had a mixed first ride of 09...

looks like some of the members are just breaking off on their own to avoid the drama caused by a few cry babies that refuse to learn how to go around corners faster than the yellow sign before it says...

Yup, I know... and if there were a cop there w/ radar, passing too many cars at once wouldn't have been the only ticket we got for that incident.

marko138 01-11-2009 10:14 AM

My buddy in HS got a ticket for passing like 4 cars at once....never mind the fact that it was also a double yellow. Whoops.
