Fun Season
1 Attachment(s)
Well, I figured I'd toss out an update. The last WERA West race was a couple weekends ago now, and my brain's finally catching up as I try and set up sponsors and whatnot for next year. I competed in 4 classes this year: C (600cc) Superstock, C Superbike, B (750cc) Superstock and B Superbike, all novice classes. This year, I took my training more seriously, and it showed in my results. Only in the first race weekend did I finish outside of the top 5. All season long I battled with a few guys from Vegas, Stephen Poppoff and John Slee. Anyway, to make a short story long, I ended up taking both of the B championships last weekend, beating Stephen by only a few points, plus taking 3rd in C Superbike and 6th in C Superstock. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with my results, and all it took were countless hours of training, track days, and more of my money than I care to count. And next year, it's going to be exponentially harder as I race with the experts and people who actually get paid to do this. Now, as I get back to my hunt for reducing my costs, I leave you with this cool photoshopped pic that one of the locals took from the last races. :rockwoot:

Badass pic, Kurticuss.
|
Damn man. Badass story and pic. Congrats and good luck next season.
|
Kurt would've never finished how he finished on his old 636. R6 FTW, literally.
|
Congrats, dude. I'll be in the same boat next year, playin w/ the big boys in Expert... It'll be interesting for sure!
Good luck in '09 |
That picture is awesome.

Sweet image and image editing Kurt.
I assume you're very happy you moved up to the R6? I rode my buddy's 636 with a built motor and it felt slow as shit compared to my r6 with a full pipe and air filter and pciii |

very cool zort

Thanks guys. I actually like the geometry of the R6 but the power of the 636. I'm down about 8 or so hp from the 636, but the bike turns in a hell of a lot faster.

What year was your 636? My buddy has an 04 with a supersport built motor and my R6 walks away from it on the straights |

hp figures are meaningless unless they are from the same dyno on the same day...
But it doesn't surprise me. He said the motor upgrade made a huge difference from his stock 636 motor. it's just that the r6 is two years newer and it's a screamer. |

nevermind the R6's bhp is 133 not under 110, hp numbers are a pain in the ass to find reliable info.... |
My stock 05 636 motor was putting out 112 hp, while the R6 put out 102 "as raced," 106 after remapping. Both run on the same dyno, around the same time of year (last year around this time on the 636). The highest hp number my tuner has seen on an R6 on his dyno is 114 (stock 08 R6 with LV pipe, pc3, and U4), so I'd say that 133 hp is pretty meaningless. I could get more out of my bike, but I'm not willing to quadruple my fuel costs per weekend by switching to race fuel.

he should walk away from you, or walk to his builder and kick him in the nuts. |
It could be his buddy is a tool and doesn't know how to ride his built 636. But my buddy had a stock '03 636 w/ a slip-on and I never walked on him. Him and I are the same speed on the track, too. But if your buddy does know how t ride and you're still pulling on him, he needs to kick his builder in the dick.

my buddy is an expert racer...
anyways doesn't matter. sorry for the hijack kurt |
No worries, it's all racing talk.

bhp figures are worthless. If it's not going to the ground, it is wasted power and too hard on tires.
Good luck in Expert next year! The way HWT Twins is looking, I might not make it the whole season before bumping up. That's just sad... |

They want to make the bike seem powerful to the masses but also want to fall under the right emissions regulations. There are also various types of HP to report (SAE, etc.). I wouldn't think that comparing a bhp claim of one manufacturer on their 600SS to another manufacturer's holds very much accuracy. |
