Calling FT BSTRD!

Hey, anyone seen/heard from him?

I need some Buell info/parts/part numbers.
Damn clutch cover went out and need to get it fixed.

HokieDNA01 05-18-2010 09:34 PM

Saw him at a friends house a few days ago. He's around..just not online. I can shoot him a message on FB if you want.

Apparently its aknown problem on the 1125's guys on the buelletinboard have talked about it a few times.

marko138 05-19-2010 07:55 AM

Sucks dude. Common problem though.

I am wondering if I should just order the stuff ahead of time so I can do the swap when/if it happens. Minimize the bikes downtime.

What year is yours? I think it's more a problem with the 08's than anything else.

I have an 09, I heard the 08's were more problematic with that. I always check th eside cover and around the slave cyl to see if any fluid is weeping out. A guy on the board mentioned it so I have been trying to keep an eye on it.

There are some O-rings in the secondary clutch actuator that didn't hold real well on the 08's. apparently I am a god getting mine to last to 9400 miles.

Your's may be under warranty when they go out, then it would be covered.

You can actually talk to a person at Buell and try to get resolution to the prob, not so much the case at DDM.

Wasn't that a recall?

Should be, as I believe that 95% or more of the 08's have had it done, and quite a few of the 09's as well.
Maybe that's why Buell never did a recall, they figured all the bad ones got replaced with upgraded parts under warranty anyway.

Sadly, that is not the case with mine.

Did finally convince the dealer to cover the cost of parts. This way I can throw it back at them if they don't do it right. Also, not going to be around this weekend to work on it anyway, so probably about the same timeline to get it back (I hope).

Gotta give a huge thanks to FT BSTRD and the guys at Bumpus. I had emails and the info I needed right away this morning. That should at least get me the right parts.
Will be ordering all my parts from them going forward!

What sort of specks are you seeing. I am still reading the damn manual to set the speedo how I want it

No, I just knew that Fatty worked at a Buell friendly dealership, so I went to him for answers on part numbers.
Emailed him last night at about 10:30, he had a response with correct part numbers, prices, and availability to me by 10 AM today.

Used that to my advantage. If my dealership hadn't agreed to cover like they did, I would have just ordered from Bumpus and done it myself.

Yeah, it really varied. Mine hit 9400 before it let loose. I noticed last year before I left a slight weep, dealer couldn't see it when I brought it in. (stupid me washed it before bringing it in, didn't want the brake fluid to ruin paint on cover) So they didn't do anything at the time.

My advice, watch the weep hole closely, if you see any fluid, have the dealer do the fix while it's under warranty.

FYI Bumpus does have the kit in stock
PN: X2086.1AM $232

Only other issues I've had were
one rear turn signal went out (warranty)
Instrument cluster fogged on cool mornings (warranty, got the 09 cluster :) )
Recall ECM flashes.

I want it to just show the ambient air temp not the stuff by the intake. It can be 40 degrees out an dif the bikes in traffic its saying temps up around 80.

I need to sit down with the manual and play around with the mode/toggle switches. it does have som eother good features I liked.

That's not a prob with the display, it's a problem with where Buell mounted the sensor. Move the sensor, problem solved. I have heard of guys putting it up in the airbox or ahead of the air intake port. Guess that makes it better.

I wish you could pick which 2 things you want displayed. I would like CT instead of AT and gear myself.

Cutty72 05-19-2010 03:32 PM

I can't even remember what was displayed on the old 08 cluster.

I do also like the mileage instant/average. it's actually fairly accurate as well.

I like how it shows how many miley you have gone when it hits reserve, I think guys said you hit 28 miles or so and youre done

I got 25. That was pre-drummer however. It is far more efficient now.

It's fun though to get that to come on, then weave side to side hard and slosh the gas around, and reset it. :D

Mine will only reset if the gas light has been off for something like 3 miles.

DDM licks nuts cause their customer service is crap.

This buell thing just happens to be a flaw in the design or somin. A fact of ANY manufacture.

There is a weep hole in the clutch cover. O-rings and the piston sleeve wear inside the clutch cover and cause a leak. Oil comes out said weep hole, sometimes just a "weep" sometimes in large amounts. In my case, it's large amounts at this point.
It took 3 revisions, but it seems like the latest fix is an actual long term fix, and should hold.

Like I said, 95% were covered under warranty, I just got the raw deal of being deployed for the last year of mine, so it expired... :skep:

Sorry for coming late to the show. Haven't been here for a while.

Glad we were able to help you out. We'd love to be your parts supplier.

Let me know if you need Cortech Luggage. We are a dealer and will ship it to you with free shipping.

Can't you lay down the deployment card on the dealer? Maybe they'll go above and beyond for a soldier.

And Fatty is a good dude and works for a great dealer. He's helped me out in the past when none of my local dealers could.

I think that's why I got what as much as I did...

This dealership really doesn't like Buell, never has. Owner/manager flat told me the only reason they kept the brand is they are the only one in the state.
Captive audience... :td:

No prob, thanks again for the quick help.

I'll be ordering my parts from you guys from now on, seeing as how my dealership needs to order everything in anyway.

They stock 1 oil filter for the 1125's... and just did a service, so they have to wait a week to get more in... :wtfru:

I hate dealers like that. That was part of the problem with Buells. Why fucking bother being a dealer if you dont give a shit or know a shit about the product? Fuck.

Cutty72 05-20-2010 10:58 PM

If I didn't like the bike so much, I sure as hell wouldn't have kept it after finding out about the lack of dealer support. ESPECIALLY after they closed their doors.
But it's just so damn much fun to ride!
