Damn insurance...
Got a letter today. The company that was insuring me, for 1080$ a year, is no longer insuring motorcycles in my province. But my broker has a company that will insure my bike for 3870$/year! Almost quadruple what my insurance was, and i've had no tickets, and had a few dings from a few years back taken off of my record!
Now I gotta find new insurance. I am thoroughly pissed. The better my driving record gets, the more I pay! Fuck! |
Yeah look around. That's crazy. I was only paying $470/yr on a brand new GSXR750 with full coverage.

My CBR1kRR was 380$/month for insurance  |
If it isnt required by your finance company drop it. 2 years premium should cover any damages you may incur. Or ask your finace co what the coverage limits are, maybe you can lower your premiums by raising your deductible, dropping off unisured motorist or something...
|
WOW!! at those rates I think I would have to giver her up and just ride dirt.
my rates here are 450 per year. full coverage. |

They 'require' full coverage, but with the financial shape HD is in, I dont think theyll be taking bikes from people who pay their payments every month. Not while their dealing with all the people who arent paying, anyway! I hope... |
I'm in the same boat Apoc. The older I get the worse my rates get. I don't understand.
Have you tried All State or State Farm? |

Im checking with Royal Bank and Scotia Bank. They have reasonable rates, or so I hear. |
Feck, I only pay $1300 for the busa, all in

And I was paying 1080, all in, for a the Harley. |
Damn...
Just paid the bill, $560 for full coverage on both the Buell and the SV! |

The zipcode you live in plays a big role.......They use it to look up theft rates, population density, etc. Apoc, you might have to call up your company and remind them that your tickets fell off your record. They're shady like that, they make YOU tell them shit like that. Hell, I had to call them to remind them to lower my rates after I hit 25. They play that whole "if you don't ask for something you won't get it" game. |

Oh, I did man. I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with them. I got a lot of 'we really want to keep your business', and they got a lot of 'not at 3800$/year, you dont' |
Outrageous!
I'm paying just over $400/year for Full Coverage jones on my Buell. With Geico. |
can you guys get coverage through HOG up there? might be worth a peek. I know when I lived in Florida they had much lower rates then my local ins.

apoc, before you drop full coverage, might wanna ask your finance co. what they are going to charge you. they generally don't come repo bikes, they just tak on their own ins. and you're held liable for that amount. so you'd just keep paying for the bike, till bike + their ins. is paid off. |

But no, as far as I know, they cant add anything but predertimed cost (interest) to a loan, up here at least. Either way, im not gonna worry about it. They try to add 4k/year onto my loan, and i'll leave the bike and keys out front of the HD dealership, and tell em to fucking keep it. But ill sell it before it has to come to that anyway. |
eff that dude. I only have liability on the SV because of $$ - I would be paying for the bike every few years. I saved up enough to replace the bike if anything happens and carry liability for anyone elses damages (costs me under 100 bucks a year)

I pay about $330 ayear for full coverage on my 06 GSXR 600, and a buddy just added me to his policy while I babysit his bike and its saving him $150 a month. Even for a Harley that seems really extravagant at $1000 a year.

Definitely check around and compare apples to apples. You might also ask how they rate the bike, some places look at retail value, some look at displacement, some look if it has GSXR, Ninja, etc. All goes into consideration as well as credit, down here. Good Luck |

I dont know anyone who pays the low rates you do down there. |

ya, I do know guys paying a lot less, but they are in their 50's for the most part. Two friends got letters the same as mine. both mi thirties with perfect records too. Not as big of increases, but both almost doubled.

The good thing for me is theft protection is only $1 a month and they dropped $60 off my total year on my car. With the clean record I have, I still think I'm paying too much. When I call around I just get the "you're not 25 yet BS."

I had my 07 Honda 600rr for 3 years (this May) and I paid about a 100 bucks a year for liability (highest limits). My 09 Kawi is 130 a year and my 06 EX500 is 80. There is no way I'm giving insurance companies thousands of dollars a year. |
Canada is different.
|
Quote:
Of course I did, and obviously 2000 was an acceptable amount or I wouldn't have bought the bike. |
Canada's insurance is very different. Aside from the massive population difference (35 million compared to 308 million) insurance is just different up here. $1000 is totally respectable!!!
Try TD Meloche. If you're apart of a group (maybe your union, for me it's university grad) they offer discounts. |

Nah, there's multiple State Farm people around. Once again this year at the bike show, I gave one of their reps a Boner when I said I would switch both bikes, both cars and my house over to them but then he nearly started crying when he found out Tracy had a Speeding ticket. Bastards. I know Allstate is here too. Whether or not they do bikes or not, I dont know. Oh and I think State Farm used to want at least a car insured with them to take a bike but I think that may have recently changed.
|
British Columbia has some kind of goverment regulated insurance. I think it's 100 and change per month..

ICBC. Seems like a good idea at the time but it's just a government program to take people out back and fuck them behind the woodshed...all in the name of saving them money. |
Fucking Canada.
