Yes, they have, and still do.

However, I'm here to tell you, the ONLY way that is doable is if there is PERFECT weather for a 30 hour time span, AND the road is in great condition.

There was one spot, approximately 20 miles long where they were working on the road, and the dirt was so loose and rocky that if I would have had my Hayabusa with me, or anything short of the KLR, I would not have attempted it.

While it *can* be done, I'm not going to be the guy to recommend it. I'd hate to see someone get up there, within 300 miles of Prudhoe, and have to turn around because of road conditions. That's why I took the KLR. I was *not* going to turn around.

ETA, I did 500 miles per day for 3 weeks on the KLR. That sucked. Don't recommend that kind of daily mileage on a single cylinder. LOL

It's funny that this thread came up.

I just read through an old thread elsewhere that detailed John Ryan's record run.

He did it on an FJR...

...it took him about 6 different attempts to actually get the trip underway (Leaving from Prudhoe). Flat tires, punctured oil pans, bad weather etc. kept forcing him to turn back.

It can be done on a larger bike but only if you have a healthy support network in AK.

Plus, don't forget you won't make regular time on the Haul Road between Prudhoe Bay and Fairbanks.

It is 510 miles. Normally, that is 7 hours on pavement. It will take you 13 hours on the Haul Road, if you are *lucky*.
